Hello

Even though the Tour of California was weeks ago and most teams are well into the racing season, Jittery Joe's is taking a bit of a slower approach to the start of the season. I just got back from meeting up with my teammates in Georgia for the first team camp of the season. We got to hang out with some sponsors, do a team presentation, get more new clothing than we know what to do with and then finally get down to some quality training. The plan was to ride a couple of the Tour De Georgia stages during the camp including the Road America racetrack where the Team Time Trial will take place. Once the ten-day camp finished up I headed back home to San Diego to continue getting ready for my first goals of the season.

The team will start with San Dimas Stage Race as a tune up for the Redlands Classic. These two races are big goals for me since they are basically my home races. After Redlands all the emphasis will go towards the team's number one goal of the year, Tour De Georgia. I have done Tour De Georgia twice before without much to show for it so I am really eager to have a good showing for the all of the Bean Team's fans that will be out supporting us. Besides, third times a charm right?

After Georgia it will be time for a short vacation with Cindy and Charlotte. We recently purchased a VW Vanagon Westfalia camper so I think a drive up Highway 1 and camping in Big Sur would be a real treat. Charlotte finally doesn't cry the entire time she is in her car seat so now car trips are actually enjoyable.

I really set myself up to have a great early season this year. My training and preparation have been stellar so far. My teammate, Cody Stevenson has been in town since New Years and Matt Shriver was here for all of February. The three of us have done some amazing rides. Just being around other teammates has really helped to keep each other motivated. I am setting my standards high for what I expect out of myself this season and I see no reason why I can't accomplish every objective I've set out to do. Not to mention, I weigh about the same as I did when I was 12 years old!

With so many new demands on my time, fatherhood and coaching, I've definitely had to find more balance in life and work on my time management skills. I think this only helps my own training, keeping me more focused and determined. I think I'm happier than I've ever been right now. I am definitely blessed with a wonderful family and the privilege of being able to support them from riding my bike.
