This is technically my second journal entry but since I wrote the first one
about six weeks before my web-site was even up no one has
actually read the first entry. So, if you have some extra time please go back
and find out what I was up to a month and a half ago, it will be the best five
minutes you've ever spent, not really.
Well, I ended up having a good Philly week. I made the front group of fifteen in Reading, only to get smashed in the sprint to end up in 12th place. But, I new I had good legs since I was climbing so well at the front of the race. Going into Philly the team decided to try and have one of us go for the King of the Mountain competition. That was going to be the most realistic way of Jittery Joe's to get on the podium at the end of the day. I made the break on the second lap and was able to win all the KOM points on both climbs per lap while in the break. Once our breakaway was caught the team helped lead me into Lemon Hill to add to my points total. By the end of the day I had enough points to win the KOM title. It was pretty cool being on the podium at such a prestigious race. My wife Cindy and her sister Sara were there as well, so it was great having them being able to see me on the podium. It was a great result for the team considering I was the only non Pro-Tour rider to be on the podium. Since Philly I've had a long break back at home to get in some good training and plenty of relaxing. I had my teammate Cody come out for a couple of weeks. It was nice getting some training in with someone different. We did a couple of LA races like Manhattan Beach G.P. and La Mirada G.P. The local races are always good to keep some racing fitness and you usually make a few bucks in the process. Last weekend I competed in the San Marcos circuit race, which is only about a 45- minute drive from my house. I raced it aggressively from the start and was able to lap the field solo on a two mile circuit. I'll take a win anytime even if it is a local race. Cindy is looking very pregnant now. She's about six months along, it's going really fast. Before I know it I'll be holding our baby, that's a little scary. My coaching business is up and running now. I have my first few athletes already. I thought it might take a while to get the word out but it seems like I will fill all of the allotted athlete spots without even trying. It's been great dealing with eager and motivated cyclist, it's a good atmosphere to be around. I'm currently on my way to Altoona, PA for the Tour de Toona'. This is a 7 day stage race with every day being very challenging. It has quite a bit of climbing and favors a strong all around rider. I think my form is where it needs to be to have a good result next week. Check back for an update of the race in my next journal or pickup the October issue of Road Magazine where I will have a journal from Toona' as well as a full article with pictures and an interview with me. |
